4 Easy Ways To Start Being
What is healthy? Is being healthy just a feeling or simply a label for being free of diseases or injury? Healthy has so many meanings to different people so to start find out what the meaning of healthy is to you and relate that to where you are currently. Chances are it's not that far from where you are and here are some simple ways to get you to your goals without changing much from your daily life.
1. Get active!
I'm not saying go a run a marathon but simply try and get away from sitting around. It has been said that sitting is the new smoking, this means that sitting has been linked to countless health related issues. Getting up and just walking 30 minutes a day can be the change that more than half the population can benefit from. So instead of coming home from work or school and sitting on the couch or in front of the computer just take 30 minutes and go for a walk around the block. Here are some simple yet beneficial things you can add to your day to increase your activity level:
These do not have to be 30 minute activities that is just a generic number, remember everything adds.
Walk/Run/Jog
Ride a bike
Go for a swim
Workout, at home or the gym
Yoga, pilates, stretch
Go to the park with your friend or family
2. Healthy Snacks
As obvious and repetitive as this one might be it is still worth mentioning because it is as simple as just picking smart choices. They have tons of resources for good choices but no one wants to seek these out. So try and cut out the need to go for and extra coffee or soda and instead choose a fruit. Instead of a bag of chips or cookies maybe choose a bag of nuts. So ill list some options and ideas below as well as some tricks or tips to help you accomplish successful snacking.
Snack ideas:
Fruit - this is probably the most powerful snack you can have on hand
Vegetables - bell peppers are an amazing and quick snack
Nuts - the mixed nut bags are perfect and only 100 calories
Now ways you can jazz up these snack options is by combining them with something you like. An example would be like apple slices dipped in nutella or almond butter. One of my personal favorites is a mini salad with apples, spinach, almonds, and olives. Below is some images taken from myplate.gov one of those sources we fail to utilize.

3. Water
Making sure you get enough water in a day is vital to your energy levels. On average men should drink 100 ounces of water and woman 70 ounces. So start focusing on switching out a sugar drink such as a juice or soft drink with a water bottle. Little by little start to focus on choosing water. An easy trick is to carry mug or bottle that you can refill, this will also save you money.
4. Make it Fun
Last and maybe the most important is to have fun with making these changes. Grab a friend and challenge each other to make these small changes. Work on finding things that work for your lifestyle and your schedule. Try different snack combinations and share them with friends and family. Get your family involved and motivate them to make changes towards a healthy life. It time to enjoy life to the fullest not from the window of a TV or computer.
