Golden Milk the Secret You've Been Missing

I recently posted and Instagram story of me making some golden milk and it got a lot of attention. Due to the many questions and requests for the recipe I decided to put it all together for you.


Lets start with the 3 main benefits

1. Anti-inflammatory

This is the main and most notable benefits of golden milk. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory meaning if you struggle with tendinitis or some form of chronic disease this is for you.

Just and FYI muscle soreness is a form of inflammation so if you are trying to speed up recovery from exercise ...... this is the secret you've been waiting for.

(lets not forget that ginger is also in this recipe and a powerful anti-inflammatory as well)

A personal story

I was suffering from tricep tendinitis and pain behind my knee that inhibited me from exercise for weeks. I finally had enough and decided to give golden milk a try. I was open minded about it but was not optimistic. I found the recipe I'm sharing with you today because it was only going to take 5 min.

Once i finished the cook I tried about 4-6oz worth and WOW! By wow I'm talking about the flavor, it tasted just like cinnamon toast crunch milk. I was so shocked by the flavor after about slowly sipping on 3 cups (roughly 12oz total) over a span of 6 hours I completely forgot about the pain in my joints. Before i had trouble standing up from sitting and pushing up with my right arm from bed. All the pain I had been dealing with had went away almost instantly!

Magic Cereal Milk is what this should be called!

2. Antioxidants & Healthy Fats

The next big hitter is the coconut milk and oil these have been getting a lot of hype lately but for good reason. Like turmeric, coconut's fats help with insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance. Another great aspect of this fat is it help absorb the turmeric due to the fact turmeric is fat soluble. Many people that supplement turmeric or any vitamin for that matter seem to forget to take it with food and water to properly absorb what they need.

3. Sleep

This recipe creates 10 servings (1 gallon)

Ingredients
  • 7.5 cups (360 ml) light coconut milk (DIY Coconut Milk) (canned is best, but carton works too)

  • 7.5 cups (360 ml) unsweetened plain almond milk (DIY or store-bought)

  • 7.5 tsp ground turmeric

  • 1.25 tsp ground ginger (see notes for fresh*)

  • 5 cinnamon stick (or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon | I prefer the stick!)

  • 5 Tbsp (15 g) coconut oil

  • Pinch ground black pepper

  • Sweetener of choice (i.e. maple syrup, coconut sugar, or stevia to taste)

Instructions
  1. To a small saucepan, add coconut milk, almond milk, ground turmeric, ground ginger, cinnamon stick, coconut oil, black pepper, and sweetener of choice (I usually add 1 Tbsp (15 ml) maple syrup).

  2. Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch but not boiling - about 4 minutes - whisking frequently.

  3. Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavor. Add more sweetener to taste or more turmeric or ginger for intense spice + flavor.

  4. Serve immediately, dividing between two glasses and leaving the cinnamon stick behind. Best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave until hot.
